Planning an Indian Ocean Honeymoon

Home · Journal · Journeys

A honeymoon is the one trip worth planning slowly. A few principles we return to, gathered over many of them.

The best honeymoons are paced, not packed. We tend to suggest two stays rather than three or four — long enough in each to stop counting days — and a gentle arc from activity to stillness, so the trip ends on the quietest island rather than a long flight. The Indian Ocean lends itself to this naturally.

Timing and small details

Build the dates around weather first and price second; a week either side of a monsoon shift can change the experience entirely. The details guests remember are rarely the grand ones: a private sandbank dinner arranged quietly, a villa chosen for its sunset aspect, a seaplane timed so you land in good light. These are easy to get right with a little foresight and impossible to retrofit on arrival.

Letting someone hold the logistics

A honeymoon is the trip where the planning should disappear. We carry the connections, transfers and reservations so the two of you carry nothing. Read our Maldives or Seychelles comparison to start, then tell us your dates and we will shape the rest.
